What makes you different?

In addition to holding a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal medicine, I have 10 years of experience as a practicing Massage therapist, and many years of study in Traditional Tibetan Medicine. The practitioners that I’ve studied under such as Andrew and JulieAnn Nugent head, Dr Nida Chenagtsang, Z’ev Rosenberg, Dr. Yuan Wang, Dr Dickey Nyerongsha, and Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo, have hugely impacted and contributed to my passion for Chinese and East Asian Medicine, and have given me an extensive education that goes well beyond the standard degree requirements.

FAQs

Is Acupuncture painful?

1

This is by far one of the most commonly asked questions by new patients seeking out Acupuncture as a treatment option. Generally speaking Acupuncture should not hurt, however, many different types of sensations are possible and whether or not needling itself causes an unpleasant sensation, depends largely upon context; what is the relative state of health or disease of the patient? What are the needling techniques being applied?- For example, active needling to disperse stagnation around an injured area can cause dull achiness, traveling sensations above or below the area being treated, sensations of warmth in an area of the body, trickling sensations, or in rarer cases electrical sensations. Usually these are actually considered positive indications of successful treatment- although these are generally very brief (seconds) and do not last the entire session! Another major contributing factor is the level of skill of the practitioner in needling, for example, can the practitioner work with the patient in such a way as to mitigate unpleasant sensations for the most part, while achieving the treatment goals? I believe in creating open lines of communication with every patient to ensure a positive patient experience as well as to ensure proper needle sensation and success of the treatment.

How do I take my Chinese Herbal Formulas?

2

Taking herbal medicine is like receiving daily treatments; specific instructions will be given to each patient during the course of their treatment session as to how to go about taking their herbal formulas. Generally speaking, patients will take their herbs 2 to 3 times daily depending upon their particular condition. Additionally, patients will be given information regarding how to prepare and consume their formula during the appointment.

Do you take Insurance?

3

I do accept payments from Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and I’m happy to provide you with a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company, assuming your insurance covers Acupuncture.

How many treatments will I need? Do I need to keep coming back?

4

This is not an easy question to answer. I would request that patients are open to committing to 4 treatments as a basic time frame for allowing them to notice changes occurring in their condition, as well as allowing me enough time spent with you to understand your condition clearly, how you are responding to treatments; course correct, if we need to make changes or fine tune your treatments, and realistically estimate how long it will take to treat your condition and what that will most likely look like.

Oftentimes patients coming for pain management will see big success right away in the form of reduction of pain, or improved range of motion and return to activities, however, addressing complicated and chronic patterns of disease and disharmony often take longer to address.

In our present socio-economic climate, I’m well aware that many people cannot afford weekly treatments, I’m happy to work with you to see what can work for you as a viable option.
